Confirming the news of their separation on Instagram, Ekin-Su, 29, initially claimed that it was her decision to call time on their relationship.
‘The last 18 months have been a rollercoaster of ups and downs, just like every relationship. Davide and I both wanted to make this work as we cared deeply for each other,’ she began.
‘Unfortunately, I have recently made the decision to end our relationship and to go our separate ways.
‘Breakups are never easy for any couple, and we hope that our privacy will be respected at this time.’
She then thanked fans for their ‘continued support’.
Davide, also 29, was later in sharing a statement, taking to Instagram with a message saying he wants to ‘focus on myself’ now.
‘Life sometimes reserves surprises and suddenly wakes you up…’, he began cryptically.
Davide continued with a reference to his ex-girlfriend’s stint in The Traitors US: ‘Ekin and I, just after the ski holidays, decided to go different ways. It was a joint decision, but I was waiting to make it public to respect her time in the show.
‘I don’t know why she agreed the statement changed last minute.
‘I agree, it was a beautiful story even with its ups and downs like all couples. I loved every moment, from the first time I knew her in the Villa until the life outside.’
Davide added that he ‘really believed’ in their relationship and ‘saw a future for us’ but, sometimes, ‘people need to grow apart.’
He proceeded to assure he would ‘treasure our moments forever’ and signed off by thanking his fans for their love and support.
The pair fell in love with each other while competing in the eighth series of the ITV show, and their enemies-to-lovers arch ensured the nation fell for them too.
Over two months, they gave us many iconic moments including Davide calling Ekin-Su a ‘liar’ and ‘actress’ after discovering she crawled along the terrace to have a secret kiss with another islander, Jay Younger.
After an epic final date in a colosseum-style setting, where they were serenaded by Alfie Boe, they secured 63.7% of the vote in the final.
They were initially love’s young dream and secured a series – Ekin-Su and Davide: Homecomings – where they introduced their home towns in Turkey and Italy to each other.
However, by the time they reached their 11-month anniversary in June 2023, they split for the first time and it was Davide who made the announcement.
‘It’s a lovely feeling being with Ekin, we probably broke up more publicly but never privately because we have always been in touch and the love between me and Ekin have always been there,’ he told The Sun.
The pair have previously said they put too much pressure on their relationship and moved in together too quickly, which all contributed to their first breakup.
Love Island: All-Stars is currently airing their first series so perhaps it’s time ITV did the right thing and gave us round four of reality TV’s most chaotic pairing.
